Here is the next video log and article. It’s about the events that happened in Japan. A horrible turn of events happened in Japan on the day of March 11th. A massive 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck the coast of Japan. This earthquake not only shook up the surrounding areas, but because it happened under water, the sudden movements transferred the force of the earthquake into the water all around. Now this caused a tsunami to hit the coast soon after the earthquake.

As If that wasn’t enough of a blow to these people facing enough hardships as is, there was a nuclear power plant that lost power to its cooling pumps. This resulted in the nuclear reactors not being cooled efficiently, so the reactors, as a result, are getting hotter by the day. This is obviously not a good thing; there have even been reports of radiation leaking into the surrounding areas, getting into the local peoples food, water, and the rest of the surrounding environment.

This tsunami even affected other parts of the world; it raised warning signs in many countries as the power of the tsunami headed through the ocean at speeds up to 500 mph and maybe even beyond that. By the time this tsunami got to most of the other land masses, the power of the tsunami – thankfully – was diminished enough not to cause anywhere as near the damage felt in Japan.

The death toll as of this writing, according to [ topics.nytimes.com ] , was at 10,800 with 16,200 still missing. The final toll is estimated to be around 20,000. This is very sad news indeed; so many people affected, even if not directly, as they have to somehow deal with the loss of their loved ones; a very tragic event. It must be nerve racking to those who are still uncertain to the whereabouts of their loved ones; not knowing if they are alive and well, or still in need of help somewhere out there.

Thankfully more than 190,000 people survived this mess and are in temporary housing, thankful for all the contributions being sent to help them out. According to [ philanthropy.com ] more than 64 million dollars has been donated from the US alone to help those in Japan.
